From September 9th to 27th, the "Belt and Road Initiative" International Plant breeding training course was successfully held in Lanzhou University. The training course was jointly sponsored by the State key Laboratory of pastoral Agricultural ecosystem of Lanzhou University, the key Laboratory of Grass and Animal Husbandry Innovation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agriculture, and the International Joint Research Center of pastoral Agricultural Ecology. A total of 90 participants from "Belt and Road Initiative" countries such as Sudan, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Gabon, Jordan, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Rwanda and China participated in the training.

Dr. John Caradus, Chief Executive Officer,Dr. Phil Rolston, former President of the International Grass seed Organization and Senior Research scientist of the New Zealand Tillable Agriculture Foundation, Professor Mark Sorrells, former Director of Plant breeding and Genetics, Cornell University, USA, Samuel Professor Zengyu Wang, former Senior Vice President of the Norbe Foundation and Dean of the School of Pastoral Industry, Qingdao Agricultural University, Foreign expert on High-end projects in China, Professor Suiying Lecturer, Lanzhou University, Professor Zulfi Jahufer, Senior Research scientist, New Zealand pastoral Agricultural Research Institute, Dr. Chris Jones, Director, (ILRI) forage improvement Group, International Animal Research Institute, Dr. Marcelo Carena, Director, forage improvement Group, New Zealand grassland Agriculture Research Institute, Dr. Paolo Annicchiarico, Research Director, Italian Centre for Animal production and Aquatic Research; Dr. Andrew Griffiths and Dr. Dongwen Luo, Senior Research scientists, Agricultural Research Institute, New Zealand Institute of Agriculture; Dr. Abel Teshome Gari, Agricultural and Food Development Bureau, Ministry of Agriculture, Ireland; and Professor Yanrong Wang, Professor Jiyu Zhang,Professor Zhipeng Liu and Associate Professor Wengang Xie from Lanzhou University.The training covered five aspects: "Field breeding methods of main crops and forage crops", "breeding techniques, experimental design and statistical analysis", "Application of quantitative genetics in breeding", "Application of molecular markers, transgenic and gene editing in breeding", "seed production and quality control", "Variety commercialization and protection of variety rights".In addition to classroom teaching, the training also includes the practical operation of students in the field, greenhouse, laboratory, statistical analysis and genomics related software.

On the morning of September 27, the "Belt and Road Initiative" International Plant breeding training course held its closing ceremony.Jing Li, deputy director of the European American Oceania Branch of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Gansu Provincial people's Government, an academician of Lanzhou University, and a representative of academician John Cradus, Professor Zulfi Jahufer and Professor Yanrong Wang, attended the closing ceremony and issued certificates of completion for 90 students.At the closing ceremony, Academician, John Cradus thanked the organizers and said that during the three-week training, the experts would do their best to teach each other, and the students would actively discuss and communicate amicably. They looked forward to the course being continued and passed on.In his speech, Academician Zhibiao Nan pointed out that the purpose of the international plant breeding training course is to "learn something and apply it."
